I struggled to find five pieces of work that i could confidently say that i am "proud" of, but from what i did pick i noticed a recurring style of design, that i'm beginning to regard as "safe". I can't help but feel that trying to keep in mind achieving high marks has overall, looking back, been a mistake and what i feel is patly to blame for the lack of innovation i can't help but see in my own work. Thankfully i see this as something i'm glad to realise sooner rather than later and i feel this year has been very beneficial for me on many levels.</div><div>I've enjoyed learning a whole set of new software and processes, further extending my knowledge of typography and gaining a greater insight into what i'm about as a designer. The weaknesses that i see in my work i feel are balanced by the positives of this year, and i feel i'm competent enough to realise how i can actively address my weakness, which makes me very much look forward to next year.<br />I intend my dissertation to focus on the area of culture jamming as i enjoy seeing clever ideas and whitty concepts used in design, and this is something i feel i would like to incorporate more into my work. I hoping to further advance my knowledge of this subject over summer, as well as gather further motivation and momentum in my own practice to carry forward into the third year.<br /></div>kevin.knotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02067208400234682723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8338190267903823300.post-7935568263526197622009-05-15T09:10:00.000-07:002009-05-15T09:14:37.393-07:00Texpert posters<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaSuy3FTWb-5Yky3XWfQVw_-SybURAL0629JeNwDf008j2J4UZJVjhrwwazdCSMq90zeYDFeamCNkge2LuNrrFN6maOzv18rY_eYECxS1GFOCgl-Wo4GxtGeBvnXfY4-e2OIloW7KZM17_/s1600-h/music-poster.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 284px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaSuy3FTWb-5Yky3XWfQVw_-SybURAL0629JeNwDf008j2J4UZJVjhrwwazdCSMq90zeYDFeamCNkge2LuNrrFN6maOzv18rY_eYECxS1GFOCgl-Wo4GxtGeBvnXfY4-e2OIloW7KZM17_/s400/music-poster.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336084647131480034" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFBrh7Adi5KzGOrCo4VJuj-Ul0tIe02VeDlx3540AVuuVNX6Sg2zewD7YtsSH1BsRXNODXnJN_aEONSxDsuwXP2wAVZGU243PesqgooRhWrn4F7AcT5QWqw4mbi9vE5RXt6eoQy_V9bYBY/s1600-h/transport-poster.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 286px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFBrh7Adi5KzGOrCo4VJuj-Ul0tIe02VeDlx3540AVuuVNX6Sg2zewD7YtsSH1BsRXNODXnJN_aEONSxDsuwXP2wAVZGU243PesqgooRhWrn4F7AcT5QWqw4mbi9vE5RXt6eoQy_V9bYBY/s400/transport-poster.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336084640154301442" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOJC9fJl2AM_Lg_ZJJrI18LLmyghAE3U54HQZSJW-EqkC3XlqukEfc2xO1GSDHEkcDJBnQK4r7RiIascwqd7_qjvz525YttXGZ4SBGfyYXUUNxStio7O-HdcRgY_i1DYk2aRPFiRjmQMbn/s1600-h/Film-poster.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 289px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOJC9fJl2AM_Lg_ZJJrI18LLmyghAE3U54HQZSJW-EqkC3XlqukEfc2xO1GSDHEkcDJBnQK4r7RiIascwqd7_qjvz525YttXGZ4SBGfyYXUUNxStio7O-HdcRgY_i1DYk2aRPFiRjmQMbn/s400/Film-poster.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336084640497878338" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0GSQJp3NR_vble0nDUgTkQWbaiEy9efYP3eqPdV0VZAXd1ujC0kU3j57ZveZbSWpQYZMVEeejrc4FRMeOxCHCQM8bFyuNJSS_D3ksx2SO8E9kre141rZLGvRkI70v6qEbiHeSe_oKxduM/s1600-h/Final-poster.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 279px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0GSQJp3NR_vble0nDUgTkQWbaiEy9efYP3eqPdV0VZAXd1ujC0kU3j57ZveZbSWpQYZMVEeejrc4FRMeOxCHCQM8bFyuNJSS_D3ksx2SO8E9kre141rZLGvRkI70v6qEbiHeSe_oKxduM/s400/Final-poster.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5336083837191084882" border="0" /></a>My poster resolution for the texperts brief, the highlight on the magenta looks nothing as bold as bold as it does here, obviously some internet matrix thing... :/kevin.knotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02067208400234682723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8338190267903823300.post-43872394719093998602009-04-25T04:43:00.000-07:002009-04-25T04:47:22.807-07:00Armed to the teeth... grrr.I spent some time (well actually quite a bit) playing video games over Easter. This has lead me to gain a greater understanding of new software i.e Indesign. which i feel a lot more confident in using now. Tjis module has also taught me the importance of structure and organisation for example having the day i wanted to print in the print room planned so that the documents could be made in time and correctly (nno missing links, correct colour etc). These skills of planning and organisation are highly transferable and i think will benefit me hugely in future modules.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">What approaches to generating work solving problems have i developed?<br /></span>I have began to document my generation of work better, however i still feel there is room for improvement as i feel i don't always present my full range of development e.g changes to colour on posters in illustrator can be done quickly and when i see something doesn't work i dismiss it rather than copy it to a design sheet to show i did try it and that i realised it didn't work. I feel i that sense i sell myself short, especially in terms of a possible body of work. however i feel i have improved on last year<span style="font-weight: bold;">...<span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?<br /></span></span></span><span><span>I think that the strengths my work are in the detailed analysis of the print process, paper types, ink types etc. particularly because my final piece had a whole section dedicated to paper stocks and how colours and type reproduce on them, I found this to be a useful reference when picking what stock I would print my poster on. I think in that sense when I work on future briefs I will be taking into consideration paper stocks etc from the off rather than leaving it as a last minute decision as I did in previous projects. The vast majority of gravure presses print on reels of paper, rather than sheets of paper. (Sheetfed gravure is a small, specialty market.) Rotary gravure presses are the fastest and widest presses in operation, printing everything from narrow labels to 12-feet-wide rolls of vinyl flooring. Additional operations may be in-line with a gravure press, such as saddle stitching facilities for magazine/brochure work.kevin.knotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02067208400234682723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8338190267903823300.post-66789246183644802862008-11-24T19:10:00.000-08:002008-11-24T19:15:33.338-08:00Offset lithographic printing.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiKs7fCS2-TgQnRrwz2CGSzQ_2s0yVVORxvdUudaMPS-jgRLI6JoCEtLinDq7MW-8_2v6FbBfORkNC-Tgt1PZPN8Q6s1tv_ivzNeDtvYLi_CvJyfLMoGVgw8uQQPAf0UywoBu-tKk334Mm/s1600-h/mb_print_design_litho.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 142px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiKs7fCS2-TgQnRrwz2CGSzQ_2s0yVVORxvdUudaMPS-jgRLI6JoCEtLinDq7MW-8_2v6FbBfORkNC-Tgt1PZPN8Q6s1tv_ivzNeDtvYLi_CvJyfLMoGVgw8uQQPAf0UywoBu-tKk334Mm/s320/mb_print_design_litho.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5272428488011304834" border="0" /></a><br />Lithographic printing is well suited for the printing of both text and illustrations in short to medium lengths of up to 1,000,000 impressions. typical products printed with litho include:<br />- Newspapers<br />- Books<br />- Business forms, legal documents etc.kevin.knotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02067208400234682723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8338190267903823300.post-4769928711545544122008-11-24T19:04:00.000-08:002008-11-24T19:07:55.799-08:00Letterpress<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8drCXBfr-i9CGJmPLyVy3LicwlLYP97NC__Z9NX1dHd7z9iFL-7J94EoGri9EtHEqer754mUejKeAsKi57L1NVZjoR2EcVFO76IMCmyqy3qRmde0LGOJkNxJ2fgu2p_Wmmf46CIhcoIru/s1600-h/100_0913.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 181px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8drCXBfr-i9CGJmPLyVy3LicwlLYP97NC__Z9NX1dHd7z9iFL-7J94EoGri9EtHEqer754mUejKeAsKi57L1NVZjoR2EcVFO76IMCmyqy3qRmde0LGOJkNxJ2fgu2p_Wmmf46CIhcoIru/s320/100_0913.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5272426511338758546" border="0" /></a><br />Letterpress printing is a term for the 'relief' printing of text and image using a press with a "type-high bed", in which a reversed, raised surface is<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ink" title="Ink"></a> inked and then pressed into a sheet of paper to obtain a positive right-reading image. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink as a sharp-edged image onto a stencil. A roller or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas.</p>kevin.knotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02067208400234682723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8338190267903823300.post-22264857342434695202008-11-24T18:42:00.000-08:002008-11-24T19:09:24.377-08:00Spot colour<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj60Y6drNydkGnJ9LW4ezovt-YvJf_dg8SsPvp1NrWohiph7-1jo6ryCOhdRuiTf6h3qq7aGq_JKtVBskPtimb2_FIofmwAL5R0VO7yIw18q5TkUXuuT1zpPT51uFt-MLu1ukDeCkI89RPf/s1600-h/6-1-pantone.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj60Y6drNydkGnJ9LW4ezovt-YvJf_dg8SsPvp1NrWohiph7-1jo6ryCOhdRuiTf6h3qq7aGq_JKtVBskPtimb2_FIofmwAL5R0VO7yIw18q5TkUXuuT1zpPT51uFt-MLu1ukDeCkI89RPf/s320/6-1-pantone.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5272426926096726786" border="0" /></a><br />Spot colours are made up from various base elements, mixed according to a specific recipe. spot colours can be bought pre-mixed and ready to use or they can be created by mixing the constituent parts.kevin.knotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02067208400234682723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8338190267903823300.post-45602826712349474272008-11-24T18:37:00.000-08:002008-11-24T18:42:20.797-08:00Duotone<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_yBFN6yJqoMIjx60B3w9PoonDmZHD6HDlV9ZCApQW4vguE7qtnvonbf6r56mbehD7aYN-iVz4CJGi4e45BSkVxv0gXtXZ2AeG4JX31Tim-zqIXsQGBp-SlVFck0inl9Hv4cZxDsFyaWXM/s1600-h/duotone1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 181px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_yBFN6yJqoMIjx60B3w9PoonDmZHD6HDlV9ZCApQW4vguE7qtnvonbf6r56mbehD7aYN-iVz4CJGi4e45BSkVxv0gXtXZ2AeG4JX31Tim-zqIXsQGBp-SlVFck0inl9Hv4cZxDsFyaWXM/s320/duotone1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5272419671558823570" border="0" /></a><br />Duotone is the generic term name for multitone printing, which can be done with two, three or four inks. when creating a duotone there needs to be a balanced curve to produced a balanced duotone because if the curve is flattened and pushed to the top it will produce a flooded colour.kevin.knotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02067208400234682723noreply@blogger.com0
